Abstract

Although many Dutch citizens indicate that they are prepared to contribute to environmental solutions, for example, for climate change, and to make some (modest) financial sacrifices, only very few people are voluntarily willing to make behavioural changes for the public environmental benefit. The environmental pressure due to consumption is mainly the result of the net household income, and is not related to his value pattern of knowledge about the environmental problems Citizens expect the government to take measures in order to actualise behavioural changes, for example, by enforcing standards or taxes.
